|Bournemouth Marathon 2014|
It was a sunny, but chilly morning for the start of the marathon. Local hero Steve Way started the event and soon we were running through the streets of Southbourne. The weather was good throughout the race, hardly any wind and it did get quite warm later though.
Becky caught me up at around 6 miles and we ran together until about half way. We both said we had probably set off a bit too quickly, however I ran at about 11km per hour pace for first 3 hours. Becky pulled away at half-way and finished in 3 hours 51 minutes which was brilliant
The crowds supporting the event were great throughout the course. Met Helen and Joanna at 18 miles (top of the hill by Highcliffe Hotel). It was great to get support from everyone and runners I know - lost count how many “High Fives” I did , local clubs and hearing people shout “come on Hamworthy”.
Struggled over the last 4 miles though and unfortunately slowed down a lot and finished in 4 hours and 13 minutes. Had planned to run under 4, but that is for another day. Looking at the results from the event I was 9th in the 60+ age group so I’m pleased with that.
Overall it was a good event, well supported and the course was better than I originally envisaged. Even though I finished slower than planned I’m still pleased with the outcome
