February 2017 – Annual Awards

Newsletter February 2017

February was another busy month for the harriers with the club annual awards dinner, some racing, park runs home and abroad, spring marathon training and news of a forthcoming big event.

The annual awards dinner took place at The Chequers Inn, Lytchett Matravers with over 20 members attending a most enjoyable evening. After much drinking and eating by all, Mike Hughes did his customary speech and he went on to announce that the 2016 Harrier of the year went to Jeanette Pike. Congratulations to Jeanette.

Jeanette receives her correctly spelled award from Mike Hughes.

It was announced that the Harriers 30th Anniversary celebration will take place at The Hamworthy club on Saturday 12th August. All current and former members are invited. More details to come nearer the event.

On the racing scene members competed at Blackmore Vale Half, Lytchett 10 and Bournemouth 10. Mike Hughes noted he was some 25mins quicker the previous time he ran Bournemouth 10 (this was in the 1980’s mind).

The dog section of Rufus and Alfie were also busy with some great performances at CaniX, Brutal events and parkrun despite having to drag their owners round.

The younger and older Lissenburgh’s survived a night race in Bristol – just ! Whilst young Mathew was also successful on an indoor track in Cardiff winning his age group, only to be denied his prize as he wasn’t Welsh !

This month saw Harriers completing parkruns in the local events such as Poole, Bournemouth and Moors Valley as well as further afield such as Wandsworth and the more exotic Australia and Singapore.

Here’s Carol Baker on her 50th at Noosa parkrun, Australia. Having ran Sinagapore Eastside parkrun the week before

Whilst man of many clubs and current resident of the colony’s Mark Caldecourt did his 100th at Pakenham also this month.

This months editor was Ian (Jan) Edwards.
